Name: Ian “Imagine” Merritt
Location: New Jersey
Coming across, Mr. Imagine Merritt over a year ago (via terrymcfly.com) became both a eye-opener and a great thing. With his incredible lyrics to moving beats, Imagine has seem to catch a lump-sum of viewers. Great Music, awesome persona, and an dapper “image”, ha! I just had to drop a few questions his way…
- So, what got you into music? When did you start?
I’ve been singing all my life.. When I was a little kid I would perform church songs for my family.. lol.. Its all I ever really wanted to do.
- What are some of your inspirations?
Ambient sounds, Depression, Intricate drum patterns, Soulful vocals, Perfectly placed falsettos, Beautiful Art, and anything Thom Yorke does.
- What sets you apart from all other rappers? What makes you different?
I listen to every genre of music so I approach tracks a whole different way from the way others would.
- “Strangers,” the name of your new mixtape (which I loved by the way), why’d you pick this name? How does this relate to your mixtape?
Thank you..lol. “Strangers” is one of those double meaning type of deals. I always felt misunderstood and have always been somewhat of a loner so the mixtape was for people like me. Secondly, No one knows who I am. Everyone in the world is a stranger to me and I’m a stranger to them. Its my way of introducing myself.
- Other than music, is there any other things you do? Hobbies, interest, etc? Special talents?
Writing and Shopping are my only two other hobbies. I used to draw when I was younger. I was really good but I’ve probably lost it by now.
- “Hip-Hop is dead.” Reactions?
I like to use the phrase “Hip-Hop is alive …But with not as many friends as before”. Simply put, real hip-hop is still being made but less support it.
- Any new projects surfacing? Music?
I actually know exactly what I want to do with the next project. Haven’t started working on it yet though. No point in working on your second project if you haven’t pushed you first one as you can.
- Shoutouts?
Yes. First, Shoutouts to God. Second, The three ladies in my life Angie, Anika, and Candace. Third, My Engineer and one of my producers A-Natural. Lastly, My boys Darion Ja’Von, Austin White, Will Score, Zuk Hits, Carlos Montiel, and Chase N. Cashe even they don’t know me ..lol
